Idiot Proof Deviled Eggs

Here's a pretty easy snack that tastes pretty damn good.

Ingredients:
8-10 Boiled Eggs
Deli Mustard (5-8 tablespoons) i put more because i like it a bit spicy
Light Mayo ( 4 tablespoons)
White Vinegar (3 teaspoons)
Chilly Pepper( to taste, i add a good amount)
Paprika (sprinkled on top when done)

Slice Eggs lengthwise and remove yolks (DON'T throw them away)

Take Yolks (i remove a few just because that's just a lot of yolks you shouldn't be eating) Add Mustard, Mayo, Vinegar, Chilly pepper, and stir until a paste forms. The yolks are a bit of a pain but use two spoons to mash everything together.

Take egg whites and fill empty parts with yolk mixture. and sprinkle paprika on top.
Set aside in fridge for 15 min. Then Devour!

Idiot Proof Hot Wings

I say idiot proof in hopes that if you've even decided to attempt to cook that you have basic motor coordination as well as some intellect and a sense of both taste and smell. If not then try ordering pizza.

Anyhow this recipe is very scavenger friendly especially for the SRMC crowd. all ingredients can be bought from Amma Nanna or Spences daily or Reliance Fresh.

Ingredients:
1-2 trays of Chicken Lollipops (chicken wings)
Olive oil
Salt
vinegar
cayenne pepper
garlic paste
Red Hot( OPTIONAL :if you brought it from home or can find something that tastes similar)
Note: Red hot makes your life much easier.

Mix salt vinegar cayenne pepper and garlic paste(go easy now this stuff packs a punch) into a paste.

Dip chicken meat parts in mixture and set aside in the fidge for a few minutes

In a deep pan, put enough oil to create a small layer at the bottom, not too thin but not anywhere near a deep fry level. set to high temp and wait. You'll know its ready when oil moves quickly around pan when shifted.

Note: Frying causes hot shit to fly, if your scared try protective eyeware. closing your eyes is not recommended

when ready carefully place each chicken wing in the oil. Let set for a minute. then turn on its side. the mixture should turn golden, a little blackened isnt bad either but is an indicator that you need to either move faster or turn down the heat. Do until all sides are golden.

Take out of pan and set aside on paper towels to strain excess oil.

Ranch isnt a bad dip for these wings but it can be kinda expensive. Enjoy!

Blue Moon Burgers

This is most definetly a Scavenger-unfriendly recipe. But if you do have access to the ingredients it will make for one amazing burger. I'll put my Makeshift Hostle Burger up here next time.

Whenever i go home for break i usually always make this for my family. I use Blue Moon Beer because when cooked into the meat it leave quite a nice bite, not to mention the orange peel and coriander in the beer really helps the meat stay soft and prevents over cooking.

Ingredients:

Ground Beef (whatever you like, i use sirloin from wholefoods)
Hamburger buns (Orowheat makes some great bread for burgers, Sara Lee as well)
1 bottle Blue Moon Beer (Honeymoon works well too, as well as any Hefieweizen)
1 Sweet Onion (Vadalia?)
1 bar Emmenthal Cheese (Gouda works as well)
1 head Butter Lettuce (it makes a big difference)
1 Roma tomato
Horseradish Sauce
Light Mayo
Deli Mustard (Gulden's Brown is my favorite)

Preparation:
Cut Onion into rings and soak in beer
Take Ground beef and toss it in as well.
Let sit for 15 minutes

Take beef and make patties of your desired thickness. (keep in mind they will shrink a little and plump up a bit) Make sure the patties are firm without any cracks otherwise they will fall apart when flipping.

Note: in order to get everything right, you'll need to coordinate everything. You need a grill or skillet cooking the burger patties, a pan with the onions and beer set to simmer on med-high heat. and then have the buns and cheese together to be put in a toaster oven so the cheese can melt over the burger buns.

Burger Patties:
Just set the grill to med-high, so it will cook through and through. then later switch to high.

Onions:
In a pan dump the beer onion mixture and set to med-high and let sizzle for bit until onions loose they're stiffness and become slightly golden. Once done then remove onions and discard excess beer.

Buns:
Do this step halfway through because it will finish before everything else and you dont want to be that idiot that burned your buns.

Take the cheese you've been guarding and make slices. Place on the bottom buns and along with the tops beside them toast them. Let the cheese start to sweat a little before taking them out.

Plating:
Now heres where everything comes together and your hard work pays off (or not, but still) Anyways. Take the bottom buns with the cheese and place a patty on top, followed by a few beer onions, then butter lettuce. Put your desired condiments on the top bun.

Stack, Squash, and Devour.

Total Cooking time is roughly 40 min.

Enjoy!

Mishy Priya's Favorite Ground Beef

This is a very scavenger friendly recipe on how to make priya's favorite ground beef dish. Shhh....but dont tell her.

Ingredients :

500g Minced beef (minced chicken or mutton/lamb works well too)
Table Salt
Coarse Garlic Powder
Lime & Lemon Juice
Worcestershire Sauce
Red Hot Sauce( any will do or simply use cayenne pepper + vinegar)
Powdered Coriander
Cinnamon Powder
Mesquite Seasoning(optional)
Lemon Pepper (optional)
Seasoned Pepper(optional)

Note : all measurements are eyeballed and adjusted for taste. sorry in advance.
Cooking Time : 30 min

Serves : 1 Priya

Directions:
In a bowl mix beef with a generous portion of Garlic Salt and some Lemon/lime juice. Add salt and coriander. Save cinnamon for final 10 min of cooking.

Throw beef mixture into pan with a teaspoon of oil. Add Red hot and Worcestershire sauce. mix and cover with lid.

Stir and mix every 5 minutes.

About 15 minutes into cooking open lid and add a little more lemon juice and a bit more garlic powder. (if you have the optional ingredients this is where you'd throw them in)

By this time the beef should be sizzling. Keep tossing it around and add a few more drops of Worcestershire sauce while the lid is off. This will allow a coat of sauce to form around the beef locking in all the flavor.

Try a small bit and adjust to your own liking. You'll know its done when you check the meat and theres no pink centers in any of the bigger pieces.

Hopefully you didn't screw up. On that note, if all went well and it doesnt taste like poo then you should be eating a tangy bowl of priyas favorite ground beef. Enjoy!

Mom's Spinach and Tomato and Tomato Curry

These recipes I've picked up from Mom are those that really bring that feeling of home to me no matter where I am. However, since these are from Mom, the instructions are somewhat vague, and all of it by "estimation" as she says. So try it out, and adjust the ingredients as you see fit. It may take a few tries, but use some common sense, and tailor it to your desire! If I'm able to get more specific directions, I will edit the post ASAP!
Mom's Spinach and Tomato:
Cooktime: Not very long.

Ingredients:
2-3 tbsp canola oil (please adjust if necessary)
pinch of cumin seeds
pinch of mustard seeds
few green chillies chopped-- the smallish, firm and ridiculously spicy ones. (how hot do you do it?)
1-2 cloves of garlic, minced
tomatoes, quartered
spinach, shredded
salt, to taste
few pinches tumeric powder
chili powder to taste

Directions:

  • First heat oil in a medium to large-sized saucepan
  • You'll know the oil is heated enough when you throw in a few cumin seeds and they splutter and pop and you're in great danger of getting hot oil splattered on you. It hurts. A lot. So don't be stupid and use the pot top as a shield. If the oil is ready, add a small pinch of cumin and mustard seeds
  • Add green chillies, minced garlic and cut tomatoes to the oil seed mix
  • Let cook until the tomatoes are half-cooked
  • Add raw chopped spinach and cook until leaves are wilted and thoroughly cooked. Tomatoes should be fully cooked as well.
  • Add salt, a pinch of turmeric powder and chili powder to taste.
  • Keep stirring frequently throughout your cooking.

For Tomato Curry:

Follow the same procedure, but use tomatoes, onions and take out the spinach. You can add potatoes, or other complementary veggies to broaden this curry spectrum.

Frobscottle

I'm a huge fan of Roald Dahl's children stories! (I haven't read much of the creepy adult anecdotes yet but all in due time) Some of my favorites are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, and The Witches.
If you've read BFG, there's no way you don't know about Frobscottle, and I'm pretty sure you've wanted to try it at some point in time. I'm not sure this recipe will have you flying off the ground with earth-shaking whizzpoppers but its worth a shot. Once I try it, I'll definitely have something to say.

Recipe for frobscottle (online version)

8 kiwi fruits, peeled

  • Strain mixture

This isn't a scavenger-friendly/ srmc-friendly recipe but whenever you're someplace that can provide you with these ingredients, go for it!

Suggestions, comments and ratings are greatly appreciated and if you put up a shitty comment Alex will give you a shitty comment right back.
